Port Edgar Dragons
We are a Dragon Boat Paddling Team based at Port Edgar, Queensferry, Nr. Edinburgh.
The team has been established with support from the Paddlers for Life dragon boat paddlers cancer survivor network.
Port Edgar Dragons, a new group of cancer survivors and their supporters, have acquired our first dragon boat in 2011 to develop dragon boat paddling in the Edinburgh area based at Port Edgar, South Queensferry (map).
Dragon Boat paddling is a fun way to build health and wellbeing after a cancer diagnosis.
Paddling with the group provides a wonderful experience and fantastic support network.
This is our third season and we welcome enquiries from cancer survivors and their family and friends
who are interested in trying out dragon boat paddling.
Please email portedgardragons@gmail.com for further information.

History
Professor Don McKenzie MD, PhD, from the Allan McGavin Institute of Sports Medicine at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada founded the breast cancer dragon boat movement.
This happened in 1996 as part of a trial study to determine if paddling would have any adverse effect on patients with breast cancer.
The breast cancer dragon boat movement in the UK was founded by Eve Elliott Pearson in Liverpool in 2005.
Today there are teams of survivors and supporters established in Liverpool, Scotland SE (Port Edgar), Manchester, Wigan, Worcester and Windermere and more regional groups are interested in forming teams.
Paddlers come in all shapes, sizes and ages, sport often being an activity in our dim and distance pasts! Athleticism is not a criterion for participation!
